Mary in the Mirror succeeds again on genre-bending single, "Fire Lighter"
On her fourth single of the year and fifth overall, Mary in the Mirror continues to enhance her sound, especially so on “Fire Lighter”. Keep reading for a glowing review of the track, as well as a closer look into the artist.
Blending together a wide variety of genres to create something both exceptional and fresh sounding, Mary in the Mirror has crushed with her newest song, “Fire Lighter”. Listeners can expect a track with an R&B base, but something that also holds plenty of elements of heavy bass, Hip Hop, and tons of Pop sensibilities. As this was our introduction to the artist, we didn’t quite know what to expect, but she’s simply blown us away on this all new effort. Needless to say, it’s worth your time and energy to give this plenty of listens.
On the background of it all, Mary has ultimately described this as a “love song with a twist”. She says, “it’s slightly obsessive to want someone who knows you exist but you’re hanging on to the feeling that they might be looking for love, when you don’t really know it”. In the world and game of love, it seems as though it’s always difficult to be on the same page. In this particular situation though, it feels as though she’s looking through this with a lens of optimism. Lyrically, there’s plenty of introspection and wondering as you connect the dots line to line, and really she’s gone above and beyond in crafting this to truly put vivid images in your head.
As much as we love and relate to the message, the overall production and attitude that “Fire Lighter” has was undoubtedly our favorite part. Mary has certifiably risen to the occasion in displaying her emotion-filled vocals from front to back, meanwhile so many of the instruments and after effects create this perfect and vibey background. It’s really such a diverse blend of genres and styles as mentioned, but with everything that’s going on, it works effortlessly. While we’re at the end of the year, we’re not expecting another single release, but will definitely be looking forward to whatever 2023 has to offer.
