Martina over delivers on her dreamy debut single, "cloud nine"
Making a massive statement on her debut single “cloud nine”, Martina has more than impressed us on her first output. Please read our full review of the track below, in addition to a much needed background on this emerging artist.
Currently based out of London, Martina is a singer and songwriter who’s elegantly blended up an immense amount of genres for her debut single, “cloud nine”. Combining dreamy soundscapes that are only complemented by her divine vocals, she’s guided the listener to an immersive experience that’s guaranteed to make you feel good by the end of the listen. Without a doubt, we’re highly recommending everyone out there give this a spin.
Somewhere between the chiller side of Pop and R&B that features a trap-inspired beat, she had some help on the production end from Jordan Elgie who put the finishing touches on. One of the first things you’ll notice is just how intimate this song feels. Although it’s certainly expansive in the sonic atmospheres, there’s enough going on right in front of you that it feels like Martina is singing directly into your soul. Through introspective lyricism that shows off her chops as a songwriter as well, this track comes full circle and legitimately checks all our boxes for what we’d consider to be great.
Reflecting on the music industry as a whole, there’s so much genre-blending happening these days due to advancements in production, but not everyone is doing it correctly or tastefully. With that being said, that’s where we felt Martina shined the brightest was in the compositional end in which this song takes from two different genres and makes something exotic of its own. For the diehard R&B or Pop fans, it’s a style like this that allows you to flawlessly enjoy the best of both worlds. Add on that her voice gives “cloud nine” a much needed complexity and depth, that’s how you know you’ve got a winning single on your hands.
As this is just her first song overall, we’re already vying to hear more hopefully coming soon. We urge everyone out there to give this a listen, to follow along, and of course to keep up with everything else that we hope is on the way!
