Freshly released on October 6th, 2022, Marottes has simply blown us away on his newest EP, Languish. Do yourselves a huge favor and please read on for our in-depth review of the record, in addition to a background on this emerging artist.

Inspired by the pure insanity that we’ve all been living through over the past 2+ years, this electronic artist named Marottes (sounds like carrots) has self-produced this atmospheric and uplifting new record titled Languish. Released digitally and on vinyl, there’s something both suspenseful and vibrant that comes through in each of these tracks, but the constant from it all is pure musicianship and an urge for creativity. Truly, we cannot wait for everyone to give this a listen as soon as possible.

On the background of it all, Marottes has explained, “Have you felt strange since March 2020? You’re not totally depressed, but you also don’t feel like you want to exhaust yourself. There’s a word for that emotion: Languishing. To languish means to be stuck in an unwanted situation”. Through six synth-drenched singles, Marottes somehow managed to create that uneasy and slightly anxiety inducing feeling on Languish, but in a way that makes your focus transfixed on each moment. The soundscapes and melodies are completely inventive, the lofi-esque vocals act as another instrument in the mix, and it’s downright impressive when listened to on a nice pair of headphones.

If there’s one thing that’s worth mentioning multiple times, it’s the production that is transcendent from beginning to end. The subtleties you can hear when enveloped by the music amplifies these songs tenfold, in a way that could be lost otherwise. Specific tracks like “Flip Cup” and “Be My Moon” become eerier, yet the cohesion in Languish shines through the brightest. There’s also a serious cohesion in tone and flow between these tracks, it flows perfectly as a record and was 100% crafted to be listened to untouched from beginning to end. Sure, we could see ourselves cherry picking specific tracks, but the greatness comes through in the full album experience.

With all that being said, this has served as the ideal introduction to the music of Marottes, and we sincerely cannot wait for a follow up coming hopefully soon. For now, please click the links below to listen and stay tuned for much more!
