Honing in on the experimental, eerie, and suspenseful side of things, Mark W Collard has simply blown us away with his debut album, Sitting On The Edge Of My Bed. Do yourselves a favor and keep reading for our review of the record, as well as a background on this artist.

As an author, playwright, and multidimensional artist currently based out of South Wales, Mark W Collard has gone above and beyond in creating something with great complexity, a debut album titled Sitting On The Edge Of My Bed. Embodying the full “album experience” from start to finish, Mark immediately immerses the listener with foreshadowing, atmospheric tones, and vivid lyricism painting the picture of his personal experiences and struggles. Legitimately, this is as much a piece of art as it is a piece of music. We cannot wait for everyone to dig into this listen.

On the background of it all, ultimately this project was inspired by Mark’s struggles with anxiety that were “then scribbled out from the edge of his bed”. We say this in the most positive way possible, but honestly it’s almost difficult to put our thoughts on this record into words given it’s completely something of its own. Through creative imagery, melodic hooks, dream sequences, and even some passages of spoken word, this record is all over the place but also extremely cohesive in its vision. At some points it veers off into the more psychedelic and trippy-esque side of things like on “I Have Travelled Through Time”, but then also embodies more traditional songs like “I Fell Into The Night”.

Blending together an immense amount of genres spanning to art pop, classical, country, electronica and post-progressive", you’d think it wouldn’t flow, but it truly does as you’re taken on an adventurous journey through sight and sound. At 10 songs that run right around 25 minutes, each song is a little on the short side, but presents an astounding amount of ideas and sheer creativity. Without a doubt, it’s that kind of record that can’t all be absorbed at once, begging the listener to come back and unlock what may not have been processed. It’s one we’ve got on our radar for a relisten, but for the reader, please give it a first run through as soon as you can.
