Man Made Hills overdelivers on 2nd LP, "Lostboy"
After falling in love with his lead single “Sunshine”, we’re beyond thrilled with the full album output Lostboy from Man Made Hills. What a record! Please read on for our in-depth review of the record, as well as a refresher on the artist.
For those somehow out of the loop on Man Made Hills, his unique style of contemporary Americana music is a seriously refreshing take on the genre as a whole. For us, Lostboy was an original, inventive, and soulful listen from start to finish that featured a slew of compelling stories and an even better varied instrumentation. Truly, this needs to be the next record up in your listening queue, it’s a gem.
Incorporating a whole lot of elements from rock and roll to modern country, the background on Lostboy is really an introspective project that came about due to recurring lockdowns. Like so many of us who have had the displeasure of being “locked up” in our respective homes, it’s always so nice to see heartfelt pieces of art like this that have come from difficult times. Allowing the artist to get off their chest whatever they need to do had to have been a stress relieving position to be in.
What you’re going to get on this album is a super fun collection of songs that showcase Man Made Hills at his best. According to the artist behind the music, he “implores fans to forget about their troubles and indulge in freedom - even if just for a moment”. For us, that task was successfully completed whether it was the intention or not. Tracks like “Sleepwalking, “Just To Be Heard”, and “I’m Dead” made us fill up with emotion and put collective smiles on all our faces. Really, we would consider this to be a feel good album no matter the context of the lyricism.
There’s also no possible way we could get through this review without highlighting the vocals delivered here, what a show! Some of the highs hit were beyond impressive and really added multiple layers to the entirety of it all. All in all, we’ve got nothing bad to say whatsoever. Do yourselves a favor and get into this record as soon as possible, all the links are below just waiting for you to click on them. Enjoy!
