Consistently one of our favorite artists of 2022, Lyle Oliver keeps on delivering gems of beauty through his unique brand of music. On his latest endeavor, a song titled “Dear John Letter”, the artist has pulled at our heartstrings once again for a perfectly emotional and downright moving song that’s filled with lovely lyricism, a climactic instrumental build, and so much more along the way. If this happens to be your introduction to the artist, it’s an ideal jumping off point into the rest of his impressive discography.

Providing us with a much needed background, Lyle has stated that “Dear John Letter” is a country breakup song where the main character “Jennifer” goes to a bar to drown her sorrows after receiving the aforementioned letter. Right from the opening notes, Lyle efficiently sets the tone within his delivery, acting as another instrument in the mix and ultimately the constant that the song really needs. With flourishments on the backend and a crisp production provided by Tobias Wilson, the collaborators truly went above and beyond in crafting this song with drama and suspense fueling the fire. A consistency you’ll find throughout all of Lyle’s music is the magic of storytelling and his songwriting skills that effortlessly come to the front and create a whirlwind experience.

Time and time again, Lyle creates this intimate and raw feeling, something that always sticks out in his music, but has been ever present on this release. As the song goes on and the underlying emotions begin to build and crescendo, you can’t help but also feel like you’re part of the equation. It’s honestly a bit difficult to explain without listening, but you’re taken on an adventurous ride as things escalate, right up until the final moments of clarity as the story finishes. Lyle’s vocals are top notch once again and that country essence comes through in such a classic and dynamic way. In our eyes and ears, it’s another unsurprising winner.
