Britain’s lovepoint makes his return with stellar new track, “Caramelise”
Review by Austin Sher
Hot off the success of his 2018 self-titled EP, lovepoint, lovepoint is back in action with the release of a new song, titled “Caramelise”. In what Tom Robinson from BBC 6 Music called “the most impressive debut I've heard all year.”, the artist continues to impress on his latest.
The new single comes not too long after the release of his most previous single, “Tortoiseshell”. While this writeup isn’t going to be a direct comparison of the two, we can proudly say that you would not be doing yourself a disservice by listening to both. Although stylistically they’re different songs, they both have a lovely sound that invites the listener back for more.
Now on to “Caramelise, this is a song we were big fans of from the moment it crossed our path. First impressions give off a real laid back vibe mixed with relaxed instrumentation, yet still surprising in moments throughout the 4 minute track. It is for sure a head bobber of a song. We can easily imagine ourselves cruising down to the beach while this song plays in the background. While the instrumentation isn’t forefront in the mix, that seems rather intentional. The lyrics and vocals are definitely the main point of the song and shine the brightest throughout the song.
We also really enjoyed the layered vocaling that comes in and out of the song. It provides a nice depth and changes it up midway which overall sounds really nice. Speaking specifics, the catchy solo at the end is what really sold it for me. It feels like the first half of the song was leading up to the finish in the best way possible. The solo at the end is definitely what made me go from this is an ok song, to this is going on every playlist I regularly add to.
Wrapping things up, if this review hasn’t convinced you to listen to the song, we don’t know what will! Speaking of, here’s all the links you need to listen to “Caramelise” and also follow lovepoint on all their social channels:
