Fresh off the release of her immensely vibrant and genre-bending EP Heartfear, we got the special opportunity to sit and speak with Liz Van Gretsch all about the record. Please check out our full interview with the artist below.

Currently representing the music scene in Sydney, Australia, Liz Van Gretsch is a singer, songwriter, and multi-talented performer who’s sincerely gone above and beyond in creating her EP, Heartfear. With the help of guitarist Peredur Ap Gwynedd (Pendulum), the two collaborators put their heart and soul into fulfilling the vision of creating something that transcends sound and actually breaks the mold of what listeners typically hear today. It takes on elements ranging from electronic to rock to synth-wave and keeps you guessing from beginning to end.

With a personal music taste that includes a little bit of everything, getting to speak with Liz was truly the cherry on top to enjoying every second of Heartfear. As mentioned in our discussion, so much of what the record does best is spanning literal decades of sound and style, in a way that makes you feel nostalgic, but also something that sets a base for a fruitful future of musical experimentation. Through 3 songs that span right around 11 minutes in length, the EP is this perfect little bite sized album that can be played in full at a moment’s notice for a nice dose of energy, a spurt of creation, or to just kick back and enjoy some perplexing tunes.

Of course we also got the chance to talk with the artist and really hear what inspired these songs lyrically and to get a much needed background on the intense process of putting it together. With Liz being based in Australia and Peredur in London, you can only imagine the difficulties of communicating back and forth. Through time, effort, and energy, they ultimately made it work and we’re thrilled it did because it’s shot to the top of our list of personal favorites released this year. We urge everyone out there to watch this discussion, mainly for the fact that you can hear the sincerity and downright drive that Liz holds in her confidence in her music. We’re right there with you and cannot wait to hear Heartfear’s inevitable follow up!
