We made ourselves incredibly clear on our review of Lee Switzer-Woolf’s debut album, Scientific Automatic Palmistry, just how much we loved it. In just over a year, the artist has already returned for his sophomore record, Annihilation Signals, and to no surprise it’s outstanding to say the least. Keep reading as we break down our thoughts on his latest.

Lee Switzer-Woolf's Annihilation Signals immediately is a thought-provoking and poignant exploration of humanity's place in the universe. Switzer-Woolf, known for his introspective and poetic lyrics, has crafted a sprawling and sonically rich album that delves into themes of existential dread and the search for meaning in a world that seems to be falling apart. It’s an immaculate follow up to his debut, and obviously, we urge everyone out there to give it an uninterrupted front to back listen.

The album is a minor departure from his previous acoustic-heavy folktronica sound, with Annihilation Signals incorporating a wider array of instruments and fuller production. Although there’s definitely a lean into the electronic side, we’ve found this to be all about balance, yet still pushing the boundaries of his own experimentation and creativity. Switzer-Woolf's layered vocals are complemented by a lush soundscape of swirling synths, propulsive beats, and soaring guitars. In this scenario though, it’s almost as if his vocals are the hidden instrument sort of pushing the tone and creating the glue of the whole record. It’s hard not to be brought in by their warmth and emotive feelings overall.

Tracks like "Yucatan" and "That Bastard Bird" draw on paranoia and the fear of global destruction, weaving together intricate metaphors that paint vivid and haunting pictures of our current world. Meanwhile, there’s also a variety of track that offer a sense of hope and reprieve, showcasing the possibility of transcendence amidst the chaos. Switzer-Woolf's wife, Kimberley, makes a guest appearance on the album, adding a an ethereal quality to the already otherworldly sound with some spectacular vocals too.

Annihilation Signals is a deeply personal and introspective work, bursting with passion, and Switzer-Woolf bares his soul through his words and composition. The album is a testament to the power of art to explore and confront our deepest fears and anxieties, while also offering a glimmer of hope and the possibility of transformation.

Plain and simple, we love it, and we know you will too. So please, check out those links below in order to listen, follow along, and to keep up with all major news.
