Kill 'Em Charlie deliver instant pop punk classic, "Hazey"
Storming back in a huge way on their newest single “Hazey”, we’re beyond thrilled because Kill ‘Em Charlie are back and better than ever. Read on for our in-depth look at the track, in addition to a refresher on the band.
Currently based out of Tipperary, Ireland, “Hazey” is the band’s first major release since their killer debut EP I Hope This Works For You (Cause It Does For Me). After covering that record and immediately falling in love with the band’s sound, we’ve patiently waiting for the follow up. Thankfully it has delivered in unimaginable ways and we sincerely can’t wait for everyone out there to either introduce themselves to this band.
While their sound is slightly reminiscent of Arctic Monkeys and The Strokes, Kill ‘Em Charlie are certainly bringing their own originality to the mix. As much as we fell in love with their debut EP, we immediately felt that “Hazey” had a more grown up and mature sound to it. At just a little over four minutes in run time, the band stretched out the song long enough to really show off their improved instrumentation, but make sure to focus on the pitch perfect production as well. That had to have been a real stand out for us.
Another thing that we feel the need to point out is just how instantly attractive the introduction of the song was. For an extended intro that lasted about a minute or so, it pulled us in so quickly and got us in the mood for what was about to evolve as soon as the vocals kicked in. They’ve really nailed that classic pop punk feel in one song, but something that perfectly blended a vintage and modern sound too. Honestly, there isn’t a single con or critique we could think of on this track, which is why we’re so excited for everyone to get listening.
The real hope here is that there’s more on the way in the form of another single or EP. Whether it’s on the way or in the works, we’re beyond content with “Hazey” as it’s really struck the perfect chord with us. If you’re just getting into this band now, you’ve discovered them at the perfect time.
