With his first ever single release, KC Lau has delivered a spectacular debut, titled “City Lights”. We are loving it! Read along with us as we share our complete thoughts on the track, as well as a background on this talented artist as well.

Kwun Chung Lau, who is much better known by his performer name KC Lau, was originally born in Hong Kong and then raised in Singapore. Having learned classical piano at the young age of 6, he took those talents and eventually learned to play guitar at 15. Learning multiple styles such as pop, rock, jazz, and fusion, he also has pulled influence from the likes of Mike Stern, Tom Quayle, and so many more. His debut single “City Lights” was an absolute delight of a track.

Now based in Los Angeles, “City Lights” is the first officially released song from KC Lau, and let us tell you right now that he has certainly set the bar incredibly high for a debut. According to KC, the single was “inspired during my drive through the City Lights of LA downtown, getting lost under the lights of a beautiful yet crazy little city of LA.”

Being based in Los Angeles ourselves, it’s difficult to not get lost in the craziness of this city, and the perfection of this single in sound has done an excellent job of summing that up, even without lyrics. At just about 5 minutes in total run time, KC has managed to turn us into mega fans nearly at the mid way point of listening. Maybe we’re suckers for a killer guitar solo, but the complexity and atmosphere built around this instrumental has taken us by hold.

As mentioned, it’s going to be difficult for the artist to top himself on the first single, but we have full confidence based on his capability and training that more greatness should be on the way momentarily. Considering that KC Lau is currently a freelance musician and current student at the Musicians Institute Hollywood, our additional hopes are that he’s getting involved in other musician’s projects as well. We truly hope to hear that sweet guitar playing pop up in other notable artist’s music as well.

There legitimately is not a single negative thing that we could say about “City Lights”. We’re so enamored with the clean sounds that it has produced. It takes quite a bit for us to be impressed with a song that doesn’t feature thoughtful lyricism, but honestly, any lyrics at all would’ve taken away the focus from the instrumentation on this single. The direction that was taken is beautiful and it 100% deserves your listen and full focus.

We can’t wait to hear any amount of follow up coming from this artist and hope you’ll love it just as much! For all things KC Lau, to listen, and to keep up with all future releases and information, please check out the following links below.
