Katy Oberle generates peace & serenity with new single, "Walden"
Kicking off another long-awaited album cycle with a spectacular lead single titled “Walden”, Katy Oberle is back and better than ever! Please read on for our full review of the track, as well as a refresher on this emerging artist.
Following up 2020’s debut record Shine almost exactly a year out, Katy Oberle has improved upon and revolutionized her own sound with a true stunner, “Walden”. For this Columbus, Ohio-based folk pop singer and songwriter, she’s mastering the use of atmospheric sound, all the while stepping up her production game in the process. If you know what’s good for you, you’ll give her latest song a listen as soon as possible.
For the fans out there of Joni Mitchell and Jewel, her particular sound is certainly right up your alley. As a therapist in her day to day life, she’s combined the usage of therapy, mindfulness, and of course music in order to put together these tunes that are helping her to stand out from the crowded pack. Just like always, she’s using her divine vocals as the focal point of her song structure and centering the rest around it. Instrumentally speaking, she’s gone for a bit more of a stripped back approach on “Walden”, but really it’s heightened our senses for everything else enjoyable about the song.
As her EP begins to take shape and sets its release for 2022, Katy let us know it’s about “finding refuge in an imaginary place”, which Katy envisions as Walden Pond, made famous by Henry David Thoreau. After such a difficult last year and a half for so many, she’s handcrafted this beauty as a space that we can relax with and be mindful with. For some, you could even use “Walden” as a sort of meditation or breather from life, because honestly the calming effects it had on us were something we weren’t really expecting, but ultimately appreciated.
Without giving too much else away, because obviously we highly suggest you all check out this song immediately, we’re also encouraging you to check out her debut album Shine as a reference point for the future. Katy is obviously doing huge things here musically and we sincerely loved that record. You can only imagine the happiness that washed over us when “Walden” was sent over. Do yourselves a favor and get listening to it all.
