Katy Adam gets personal on her debut album, "Future Girl"
Displaying a near mastery in songwriting on her debut record Future Girl, Katy Adam has really gone above and beyond. Read on for our full review of the review, in addition to a background on this emerging artist.
Currently representing the music scene in Adelaide, Australia, Katy Adam’s debut album Future Girl doesn’t hold back anything in its regard to impress. All over the place in terms of genre, mainly blending together rock, pop, and folk, she’s managed to immerse the listener in her own little world of sound. Needless to say, you should definitely be giving this one a spin when you get a moment.
Taking influence from some of the greats like Bruce Springsteen and Taylor Swift, the immediate reaction from us was that her love for songwriting surely peaked its head out quickly. Coming in at 12 total tracks, spanning right around 54 minutes in runtime, she flawlessly executes her skills that allow for the listener to live through her experiences. Each song feeling like it was more vivid than the last, they burst with imagery-filled lyricism that by far was our highlight of Future Girl.
At only 22 years old, it’s unbelievable to realize that she’s already lived a full life of being involved in music. From being in the Australian Girls Choir to performing in various musical theater shows, this solo career in music was the obvious next step to take, and we’re thrilled she did. Making such a grand statement with a full album like this is 100% going to open doors for her going down the line.
Now there were definitely some standout singles on the record, specifically “Too Darn Loud”, “To The Bullies”, and “Forever Fearless”, but the feeling that we got as a whole was just cohesive the record was. Our sincere suggestion here would be to listen from start to finish to really get the full feeling and mood that Katie was going for. It’s certainly not a short album by any means, but you’ll get sucked in immediately and not want to leave as soon as you hit the play button on the opener “1985”.
