Katanak uplifts on his stellar new song, "Weigh Down"
Instantly catchy on first listen, we’ve found ourselves quickly in love with the latest single coming from Katanak titled “Weigh Down”. Please read on for our in-depth review of the track, as well as a much needed background on this rising star.
Directly inspired by the role he’s about to play in the upcoming Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis as bassist, Jerry Scheff, Katanak’s newest single “Weigh Down” is a cavalcade of excitement from start to finish. From the artistic mind of Dylan Cattanach comes his musical project called Katanak that’s filled to the brim with ferocious melodies, bright instrumentation, and the overwhelming feeling to get up and groove it out. If this is your introduction to the artist, you’ve discovered him at the perfect moment in his growing career.
Representing the Brisbane music scene at the moment, the song ultimately has to do with “questioning expectations when life weighs you down”. Although the lyricism certainly features a darker edge to it, he’s juxtaposed the message with a bursting confidence in both sound and style. It’s one of those songs that the more you pay attention and connect the dots within the themes, the more you learn about the artist within. We’ve found this to be an ideal jumping off point into the rest of his growing discography, but there’s also a sneaking suspicion that there’s plenty more coming within the year.
You’ll realize it quickly, but there’s a ton of genre influence that comes through on “Weigh Down”. At its core it oozes a very classic alternative rock, but those poppy elements that shine bright are what’s going to make listeners want to come back for more. Dylan’s vocals add that perfect touch and consistency, all the while his genuineness provides the perfect constant as well. If anything, the song structure displayed here continues to think outside the box and not necessarily put out the same sounds that the genre as a whole is being plagued with.
With all that being said though, we’ve got zero complaints here and once again are urging everyone out there to go ahead and click that play button. You can do so, and follow along, by checking out the important links below. Enjoy!
