Originally from Tempe, Arizona, Just Tommy’s “Playing for Likes” are a song and video that have a message for all social media users. According to the artist, “Playing for Likes” is loosely about social media and the role it plays in our lives today, but it could be applied to other aspects of life as well” says Just Tommy, and “The concept started with a question: What drives us to share the things we do on social media with our friends, family, followers, strangers, and the world? “
You’ll notice straight off the bat in the music video, that the themes covered lyrically are directly portrayed in the video. Honestly, it was astonishing how close the artist and his vision got to what we imagined a video would look like given the song. We listened to the song before we checked out the video and it was a spitting image of what you’d expect. Filled with fun after effects, a message that hits close to home, and of course the stunner of a song itself, this is absolutely a music video worth checking out.
As for the music, it’s pop punk at its base, but with a nice twist to it. These days we don’t see as much of the genre on display as we’d like to, so we were thrilled that when “Playing For Likes” came across our plate, it blew our expectations out of the water. Like any genre you’re more familiar with, you tend to be a little more strict with the judgement, so let's just say Just Tommy hit a home run with not only the video, but the song itself.
Considering this was our first dive into the music of the artist, let it be known right now that we’ll certainly be back for more. Songs and videos like these are meant to have follow ups, so we’ll be keeping a close eye on what else they release. We’ll make sure to provide as many updates as possible too.
