Jordyn Kenzie excels on stripped back single, "Trigger"
Back with her first new single of 2021, Jordyn Kenzie has just put forth a stunning new piece titled “Trigger”. Do yourselves a huge favor and read along with us as we give our in-depth review of the track, as well as a background on this blossoming artist.
Encompassing an ambient and dream pop sound, Jordyn Kenzie’s latest output on her newest single “Trigger” is nothing short of amazing. Currently based out of Nashville, she’s managed to shift the entirety of her sound to more of a “minimalistic and nocturnal” representation, yet it’s still bursting with emotion and ingenuity within its lyricism and overall feel. Needless to say, we’ve quickly fallen in love with this track.
Her self-proclaimed aesthetic being “where Lana Del Rey shares tonic with Robbers-era Matty Healy” is just about as close as you could possibly get. Being fans of the two, just reading that got us incredibly excited to see how she would interject her own signature style into a brand new song. Having listened multiple times at this point, “Trigger” is hands down one of her best yet. Emotional, suspenseful, and filled with a compelling story, it checked all of the boxes for us.
In terms of sound and production, surely the background goes along the lines of minimalistic, but it overwhelmingly allowed for Jordyn’s vocals to take hold and command the forefront. Seeing as though she’s switched up her sound from the early days on, we much prefer this sort of stripped back style that allows for the artist to accurately showcase her talents in the form of her vocals. The vocals being the clear standout on the song made for a spine tingling three minutes of listening time.
Leaning in on that ambient and dream pop sound is where we think Jordyn thrives the most, however, we’re always open to hearing a multi-faceted artist take advantage of instrumentation. Considering that she’s still so early on in her hopefully long career, a pivot or departure wouldn’t be something out of the ordinary. As long as it’s got that signature Jordyn Kenzie flair to it, it truly doesn’t matter what the background sounds like.
With all being said though, “Trigger” took us by hold and didn’t let go until the final moments of listening. We’re very obviously recommending and urging the readers out there to not only get listening to the single, but to explore the rest of what the artist has to offer as well. We always recommend a start from the beginning to hear the evolution of an artist’s sound, especially since it’s almost night and day to where it’s ended up.
