Blending up the soulful side of folk, pop, and rock, John Leslie Hulcombe’s latest endeavour has been an absolute hit with the release of “Born of the Fire”. After returning to music in 2020 with his single, “Town of Love”, Hulcombe is back with his imagery-filled lyrics, succinct harmonies, and cunning instrumentation.

According to the artist, this latest track revolves around love, freedom, and redemption. Our immediate first impression was just immediately how familiar and catchy a song could sound. At a normal listening pace, it takes a few streams or so to really get the feel for a track and how it was crafted, however we were sold based off of our first listen. Considering this is Hulcombe’s second single released in the span of a year or less, the reaction we were all thinking is, “when can we hear some more?”.

For the artist, most of his life has been channelled around music and travel. Fulfilling his life-long wanderlust was the springboard for him returning to music and creating the song you’re about to listen to and ultimately love. While we surely have a bit of wanderlust ourselves, we can’t help but be thankful that the artist was stuck at home using that creative outlet to bring new tunes to the world. While it appears he’s based out of Australia, he’s surely brought some smiles over to us in Los Angeles.

Truly, there aren’t any negatives or cons we’d be able to point out on “Born of the Fire”. From start to finish, it’s just the type of light hearted and upbeat rock and roll that we listen to in our personal lives. To be able to add his existing music to our arsenal of listening is an absolute joy. However, as things begin to open up (especially travel), our hope is that Hulcombe will continue to make new music for the world to enjoy. No rush to the artist, but we’d love to hear the evolution of his return.

While the single doesn’t come out until April 16th, we’ll make sure to update this article the moment the single is shared. In the meantime, follow along with his social media channels to stay tuned for everything that’s hopefully on the way. Enjoy!
