Combining a seemingly infinite amount of genres and culmination of sounds, Joe Kenney has enlisted quite the team to put the finishing touches on his single, “If It Lasts”. Featuring the vocal duo of Elle Gyandoh and Murphy Bug, MC Sterling Duns, Carter Fox (bass), and Sam Cooper (guitarist), you’re consistently hit with a diverse usage of instrumentation and pizzazz. As this was our introduction to Joe’s music, we didn’t quite know what to expect, but we left our initial listen overjoyed and are now urging everyone out there to give this a spin.
Rooted in R&B but basically carving out something extraordinary to become its own thing, everything about “If It Lasts” feels smooth, rich, and soulful. With Joe Kenney at the helm as an award-winning recording, pianist, and composer, there’s no surprise here that he’s fulfilled his vision. Truly though, through our now many listens we’ve uncovered so many subtleties within the mix and production that come out as striking. With a slew of collaborators featured, you’d think it might got crowded at times, yet everyone has their moment to shine and add in deep complexities that only help to make this song pop more. Elle and Murphy’s vocals bring a euphoric sensation that’s hard to deny, and that may have been our favorite part, but with more listens that’s bound to change.
Another thing that you should know is that this is actually a remix of Joe’s original version of the track. Now having had the opportunity to enjoy the first, we’re not sure where our preferences lie, mainly because each has a ton of pros.
