After our first listen of Joanna Gemma Auguri’s full length album 11, we now consider ourselves super fans. We loved it! Please read along with us as we break down our complete thoughts on the record, in addition to an insight on this talented artist.

Described by Joanna Gemma Auguri as “an avant-garde balancing act between dark folk, poetry, films - and sad pop music”, our jaws instantly dropped and our faith in music was restored after our initial listen to her record, 11. Recorded on tape during the first COVID-19 lockdown, Joanna’s newest album will take you on a dark and melancholy journey that features vibrant instrumentation and a top of the line production output.

It’s probably not a coincidence, but 11 comes in at 11 total tracks at a little over 46 minutes in run time. As soon as the opener “Confession to a Future Lover” began, Joanna had transported us into a world she so seamlessly built for a new listener. As a lover of music who’s been honing her craft for quite some time, we can already feel that it will be difficult to follow this up, but with a creative mind that she has, we know we’ll certainly be looking forward to whatever’s next.

While we can already go ahead and highly recommend a listen to the reader here, we have to go on and explain to you the finer specifics of 11 without spoiling anything for those who choose to dig in. Joanna’s vocals and delivery are absolutely the focal point and the guiding light of the album, however there’s a looming “dark” feeling that shows its head throughout the entirety of the listen that draws focus as well. As instrumentally profound as the record was, we do recommend you listen even closer to the stories and complex themes that are being covered here. We’ll let you be the true judges to really connect the dots on the subtext.

Honestly, picking a favorite out of the bunch would be an impossible task. What we will suggest is starting from the beginning and hitting play. This is about as cohesive a listen as you can get. There isn’t a standout single from the listen, rather an immersive listening experience and journey that Joanna has crafted with extreme thought and planning. It would really be a shame to put this on shuffle and skip around.

To really wrap it up, 11 is hauntingly beautiful and 100% deserves your undivided attention. We’ve done the easy part and listed all of the important links below in order for you to listen and follow along with everything Joanna Gemma Auguri, we know we will. Enjoy!
