Jacob Hill crafts a laidback sound on EP, "107"
Get ready everyone, because Jacob Hill has just shared his wonderfully produced and put together EP, 107. Please read along as we share our complete thoughts on the record, in addition to a background on this incredibly talented artist.
Currently based out of Nottingham, Jacob Hill is a British singer and songwriter who is making waves within the music industry. Having his music featured on BBC Introducing, Jacob continues to share captivating songs with his growing audience. We’ve loved everything we’ve heard on this newest EP 107, and we confidently think you will too.
Recorded in the Springtime of 2020, 107 was described by Jacob as the type of music “you'd listen to on a journey home, rain pouring down, whilst contemplating how the times are changing”. He added that, “It’s about reaching out to people, endurance and being able to really tell the differences in ourselves, especially in such a challenging year”. Additionally, the name 107 is a fantastic story as well. The amount of time he set in his diary for this, April to July 2020, happened to be 107 days. This was the perfect song title and a springboard for exploring the EP's main theme of self-reflection in more depth.
What sold us immediately on the record was the thought of having a dedicated album to listen to on a journey home. For us, that’s more of a low key, instrumental, and relaxed type of record. What was delivered on 107 is incredibly close to what we were looking for. Seriously, the way that Jacob’s succinct yet unique vocals blend into the breathtaking production of this EP was overly impressive for us. There’s plenty of captivating tracks, but we feel that it’s best listened to as a whole cohesively from start to finish.
If you happen to enjoy the music of artists such as Damien Rice, Tom Waits, or Jeff Buckley, then this is definitely a record you should jump on immediately. If some of those names are unfamiliar, take our sincere word for it and dive into this record anyway. We promise you won’t regret it.
We truly don’t want to give too much away, because we’d obviously prefer you listen for yourselves, but what Jacob Hill is doing not only on this EP but in his music as a whole is something special. His release schedule has been rather frequent over the past couple of years, and with each piece of music that comes out, he seems to continue to find himself as an artist and craft up the work that he wants to be listening to.
With all being said though, no matter the weather or setting outside, this is the type of record that you could listen to at all times of the day. It’s fresh, inventive, and features some outstanding production as well.
