Jack & Cherry release "Moonchild" off forthcoming debut EP
Freshly released today on March 26th, 2021, Jack & Cherry are back with an intoxicating new single, “Moonchild”, that we are loving! Read along with us for our full thoughts on the track, in addition to a background on the artists.
“Moonchild” is the first single from Berlin-based duo Jack & Cherry’s soon-to-be-released debut EP, Roadkill Lullabies. If this is any indication of how the entire record will sound, then sign us up! Taking influences from the greats such as Robert Plant, Alison Krauss, and First Aid Kit, this talented duo have injected their own unique and signature sound into the Americana genre.
Being based in Berlin, you can only imagine there isn’t too much original Americana music being created. Thankfully though, Jack & Cherry found each other and sought out on creating music that is bringing poetic lyrics, thrilling instrumentation, and a sense of realness to life. On the background of “Moonchild”, the band let us know that “it’s the ultimate witch song. It’s waking up in the middle of the night after a terrible nightmare and realising that the fear doesn’t come from the external world but from within our minds. It’s about the comfort we can easily find in the anxiety and depressive state, which is often easier than facing the challenge of fighting for happiness.”
Getting the background on a song always helps to understand the message, lyrics, and context a bit more. Looking into an artist’s mind gets a bit easier when they explain things clearly like this is as well. As we mentioned earlier, we’re loving this song and it’s got us incredibly excited for the EP. Although it doesn’t appear that there’s an official release date, we’ll be sure to keep you posted.
As for the song and our feelings about it, well we truly loved every second of it. The opening bass line and drums combo were enough to sell us and make us fans, however the switched and layered vocal deliveries were also a nice surprise as well. We particularly loved how neither member overpowered their set of singing and that it was a shared experience. You really got to understand both sides of the story by hearing them broken up into two sections. It was a very well done and conscious effort.
Being lovers of all things Americana has given us a serious appreciation of what these artists have accomplished here. It should go without saying, but we definitely recommend you give a listen to “Moonchild” and to everything else they’ve got in their discography as well. Enjoy!
