Hillary Lewis breaks down her singing, acting, & beyond in Q&A
With so much in the works, on the way, and recently released, we took a moment of Hillary Lewis’ time to sit down for a full Q&A! We learned all things surrounding her start in the entertainment industry, the process of making music, acting, and beyond. Take a moment and check it all out below.
WWAM: You've been in the entertainment industry from a young age. How do you think that early experience helped shape who you are today as an artist and influencer?
Hillary Lewis: Growing up in such a tough industry has definitely taught me a lot, not just having to do with entertainment, but how to survive in the real world. Trying to have a career in the entertainment industry at such a young age forced me to grow up fast emotionally. You have to have a tough skin to survive in it. I wouldn’t be the person I am today if it weren’t for my experiences at a young age.
WWAM: Your debut single "Love Spell" has a pop-rock angst vibe reminiscent of artists like Olivia Rodrigo and Beach Bunny. What inspired you to go in this musical direction?
Hillary Lewis: I’ve always loved the pop punk genre. I wrote this song after a breakup, and wanted to spill all the anger I was feeling at the time into a song. The goop punk genre fit the lyrics and my emotions perfectly.
WWAM: In “The Kids Table,” you worked with actors like Stephen Glickman and the D'Ambrosio twins. What was it like being part of that project, and how did it influence your career?
Hillary Lewis: Being a part of The Kids Table was such a fun experience. It showed me that you don’t just have to be an actor, but you can be a writer, director and producer as well which is exactly what Stephen Glickman showed me. The D’Ambrosio twins are two of the most hardworking inspiring actors I know and I learned a lot from them on this set. I think when it comes to balancing out being a singer, actor, and influencer, I just have to combine everything I do. All roles are connected, it’s just about how I showcase them. Motivation wise, I love what I do and if I’m able to wake up everyday with a smile on my face, I know I’m going in the right direction.
WWAM: What’s your songwriting process like? Can you share how “Love Spell” came to life, from concept to release?
Hillary Lewis: I’m such a creative person and I always have a million thoughts going on at the same time. I love to journal, I’d say a lot of my song inspiration comes from that. For Love Spell, I sat down with my co-writer, Griffith Frank. We brainstormed and just started writing. I knew I wanted it to be a pop punk song and luckily we were able to bring that to life.
WWAM: You've been compared to some major names in the pop-rock scene. Who are some of your biggest musical influences, and how have they inspired your sound?
Hillary Lewis: This question is so hard, I love so many artists. I’m a huge Taylor Swift fan. I’ve loved her since I was a child. She inspired me to start writing and playing guitar. Genre wise, I’d say some of my biggest musical influences are Avril Lavigne, Kesha, Miley Cyrus and Paramore who are all so talented. These artists make music that fits every emotion and that’s what I love.
WWAM: 2023 was a big year for you with the release of your first single. Can fans expect more music soon, and what direction do you see your sound evolving in?
Hillary Lewis: Yes! I’m actually releasing my next single “2000’s Baby!” On November 10th. I’m so excited for this song to be released. I say this everytime, but it’s definitely one of my favorite songs that I’ll have released. I’m hoping to continue releasing more and more, and I hope my listeners love my music as much as I love making it.
WWAM: As someone who has worn many hats in the entertainment industry, what’s one piece of advice you would give to aspiring artists trying to make it in music or acting?
Hillary Lewis: The biggest piece of advice I would give to anyone aspiring to make it in the entertainment industry is to have thick skin and to not give up. You will hear so many no’s and that is ok! It’s a hard industry, but if you love it, pursue it!
WWAM: What can fans expect from you as 2024 wraps up and 2025 begins?
Hillary Lewis: I’m releasing my next single on November 10th. It’s a song called 2000’s Baby! The song is screams 2000’s and that’s what I love about it. I loved growing up in the early 2000’s and that’s exactly the vibe this song gives. I have some other songs lined up that I’ll be releasing as well. Im also working on writing a short film with a friend which is super exciting!! In 2025, I’m hoping to get more involved in the acting scene!
