Grey Tower Heights share an atmospheric new single, "By The Sea"
Surpassing expectations once again, Grey Tower Heights have continued their streak of greatness on a third single titled “By The Sea”. Please read on for a closer look at the track, in addition to a background on these artists.
With an ultimate goal to “explore the fantasy of escaping the pressures of city life and starting again”, Grey Tower Heights’ “By The Sea” is a calming listen that leans heavily on imagery-filled lyricism. As this was our introduction to the band’s music as a whole, we didn’t quite know what to expect, however they’ve left us with a feeling of positivity and optimism into the future. Needless to say, we are overwhelmingly recommending a listen for those that haven’t dug in yet.
Taking things slow and building towards an emotional climax right at the end, “By The Sea” took us on an unexpected rollercoaster ride of different moods. While the song is relatively stripped back in terms of instrumentation, the subdued production in the background that mainly focuses on atmosphere was the right call stylistically. It may not seem like a lot, but the calmness in the background was just the type of suspense that the song needed to get its point across. Led by an enchanting set of vocals that set the stage and painted the picture of the situation at hand, it’s something we already know we’re going to come back to experience once more.
On the song’s vision, we do think it was crafted like this to really bring a focus on the message. So says the band, “this tale of hope and misery may appear calm on the surface, until you are dragged down into its depths”. If we’re understanding correctly, then it must have to do with the juxtaposition of the lyrics and sound, but at the least this track has proved to be anything but one note and legitimately thought provoking. Comparing it to the first two tracks the band has shared, this was our preferred listen, but we do think that Grey Tower Heights are building up to something massive as they continue to release. Without a doubt, it’s a musical journey that we can’t wait to see bloom, and have a confident feeling that all who listen will come out with the same regard.
