Gregory Griffin makes his return with expansive new single, "Salt Flats"
Following up his 2018 EP Caledonia, Gregory Griffin has made his long awaited return with an outstanding new single, “Salt Flats”. Please read on for our positive review of the track, as well as a background on this talented artist.
Singer, songwriter, and ultimately entertaining performer, Gregory Griffin has just shared a revolution in his personal sound on a new single titled “Salt Flats”. Just released on November 17th, 2021, Griffin’s hand crafted a song that has checked all our personal boxes for what we would consider to be great. Filled with nostalgic stories upon clever lyricism, he’s also reinvented his sound compared to his debut EP. Needless to say, this is a track worth digging into immediately.
Written over the course of a 3 day road trip across the United States, Griffin was inspired by the beauty of the Utah salt flats and tells his story of leaving behind a life and starting a new one. Compelling in its story and giving old and new listeners a glimpse of what he’s been up to over the past 3 years, of course we couldn’t help but notice an extremely welcomed change in sound and tone too. This is what we would consider atmospheric country, in the sense that it’s not just a plain old song with a singer and a guitar. The production effects and layering of vocals gave a depth to it at all that legitimately sent shivers down our spine.
Upbeat and a little spunky as well, the instrumentation here was also something to behold. With help from his session band that includes Kirby Bland (Drums), Matt Skates (Double Bass), and Whit Wright (Pedal Steel/Organ), everything about this was broad and expansive. While of course everything was interesting and provided for a positive listening experience, the start of the show continues to be Gregory’s vocals that have matured and really had our attention piqued the moment he opened his mouth.
Now that Gregory Griffin is back and making music, our real hopes going forward are that more is on the way! We know we’ll be following along, but we also suggest you do the same. You can listen to the song below, in addition to checking out his website to learn how to stay in touch. Enjoy!
