GreenblacK shares a marvelous debut single, "Consumption Overkill"
After years and years of contributing his musical genius to other projects, Yohai Portal is back with a new project called GreenblacK. We’re loving his debut single “Consumption Overkill” and are encouraging you to keep reading for our full review of the track.
Born and raised around Haifa, Israel, Yohai Portal is a vocalist, songwriter, and immensely talented guitarist that has lent his efforts to many successful projects around the Israeli music scene. After accomplishing so much with other bands like The Genders and releasing multiple records, he’s ventured out on his own to bring us “Consumption Overkill” as a debut for his latest project, GreenblacK.
Like so many cooped up musicians over the span of recurring quarantines, Yohai has a handful of singles ready to share with the world, but “Consumption Overkill” has certainly primed us and impressed us for everything that’s set to come. Honing in his skills over the years as a session guitarist and receiving praise all around the country surely has had an impact on his production, however taking things into his own hands and carving his own path is sure to bring the best music yet.
Usually the most difficult part about an artist sharing a debut single is the trouble of deciding which type of sound and direction they’d like to go in, as well as what type of audience they’re going to attract. In this case though, our expectations were completely blown out of the water considering we wouldn’t want to hear any other type of sound coming from GreenblacK. Seriously, if all his music could twist and turn just like “Consumption Overkill”, we’d be beyond thrilled. Considering that there’s more on the way in the coming months, we know for a fact we’ll be anxiously waiting to see how the sophomore single turns out.
Without giving too much away, the amount of effort, passion, and pure musicianship that comes across on a single song was unprecedented. We really don’t know how he’s going to top himself here, but with so much down time and paths for creativity, there’s no doubt in our minds that he’ll be saving the best for last.
