For those out of the loop on Gigi Santos, you’ve discovered her at the perfect time. Now based out of New York City, Gigi is a singer and songwriter who is seamlessly putting together a sound that reverberates with tones of R&B, Jazz, and her own completely unique sense of style. On her newest output “Something Is Happening”, this artist has one upped herself and put out something sincerely glorious.
Described as “sensual, yet appealingly melancholy”, we couldn’t possibly agree more. Specifically on “Something Is Happening”, Gigi’s vocals continue to take center stage once again, but the instrumentation section and backing sounds on this single are completely different than anything she’s done in the past. With soulful and sincere guitar riffs being played and building up her voice, everything is weaving in and out to create a non stop domino effect of musical highs. If you’re unfamiliar with the term “musical frisson”, look it up, because that’s exactly what you’re going to get.
It wasn’t too long ago that we actually had the opportunity to interview Gigi about one of her past released singles “Mercury Ocean”. Since then, we’ve been patiently waiting for the follow up and it’s probably not going to come as a surprise to hear that we think she’s outdone herself. As if the production and mixing couldn’t get any better, this is just another impressive piece of art that fits snugly into her rapidly growing discography. As far as vocal presences go, Gigi’s voice is the standout, but really the complete package of the track is worth experiencing as a whole.
