Gabba Delic debuts psych pop stunner, "Pack My Bags"
Following her latest single, “Lemon & Cilantro”, the inevitable has finally happened, Gabba Delic has released her highly anticipated debut record, Pack My Bags. Please read with us as we break down the record, as well as a refresher on the artist.
Shared on April 16th, 2021, Gabba Delic has unveiled her vintage sounding debut record, Pack My Bags. Channeling a Janis Joplin-esque sound overall, but infusing all sorts of her own originality, we’re head over heels in love with what she’s put out. Having loved all the leadup singles, it’s no surprise that it’s as good as we expected it to be.
Just in case you forgot, it’s barely been a week since our review for “Lemon & CIlantro” came out. If you happened to read that, then you’d know just how highly anticipated of a release this was for us. Loving everything she’s put out previously and hoping for that 60’s psychedelic sound, wrapped up with a modern take, it’s really taken us by hold.
Coming in at 10 songs, spanning 36 time warping minutes, there’s truly so much to love here from start to finish. Listening to the previously released singles in a now album context has brought new life to them. Surrounding them with the unheard tracks and listening to Gabba Delic’s story unfold in the time frame has been nothing short of amazing. Lyrically, she’s candidly used her unique vocals to not only deliver imagery-filled sentiments, but in a way that has really become memorable. They’re gritty and powerful, just how we like it.
Now while it would be close to impossible to single out a favorite track, there are certainly some favorites that arose from our listens. Our recommendation here is to start from the beginning, click play, and let it run through, but if that’s too much then at least listen to the opener “Gold Coast”, “Wicked Witch”, and “My Fear”. That’s not to say any of the others fell flat, but like any normal listen, there’s always those certain tracks that present themselves and have an extra special feel to them!
As we’ve mentioned in the past, all things psychedelic and reverb-filled tend to pique our interest the most, but that also means we judge a little bit harder because we’re more familiar. However, Gabba Delic has certainly passed our test of greatness and we can confidently state that she’s knocked it out of the park for a debut album. The base is set and the sky’s the limit for how high her star will rise. The music here is built for a festival setting and we can’t wait to be front row as witnesses. Enjoy!
