Released in 2020, but still as incredible and lyrically relevant today, Free Mace have shared their latest EP, World on Fire. We are loving it! Read along for our full and in-depth review, in addition to a background on the band as well.

Based out of Jacksonville, Florida, Free Mace are a reggae trio that have quickly proved to us their dynamic style. Pushing the envelope in sound on each subsequent release, these Floria natives are pushing a strong anti-establishment rhetoric that challenges the listener to focus in and break down their complex lyricism.

Coming in at 4 tracks, spanning 16 glorious minutes, this is a personal brand of reggae music that we’ve managed to instantly fall in love. It features all of the classic elements, however there was a modern day element and a signature sound brought in from Free Mace that did a memorable job of rounding everything out. For us, this is the type of record that could be thrown on at just about any moment of the day, but also still implores the intellectual to break down what’s being thrown at them. This record is a winner in our eyes.

Right from the get go on the EP opener, “War Machine”, the anti-establishmentism shows its head and makes a great point. We’re definitely on the side of Free Mace here, which just made us love everything a little bit more. Instrumentally speaking, the trio has knocked it out of the park in terms of creating an absolute full sound that encompasses everything right with merging the genres of rock and reggae. There’s proper guitar solos and deviation from what you’d normally expect, but that just goes to show you the talents of these three members.

It should probably go without saying, but this is without a doubt a record that we’ve got to go ahead and recommend. From a musical standpoint, they’ve checked all of our personal boxes for what we enjoy most in music, and now we’ve got to give ourselves some musical homework to check out the rest of the band’s discography. While yes, this was released in 2020, it just gives us the hope to look forward and cross our fingers for more in this coming year.

With all that being said, go ahead and do yourselves a massive favor and check out the important links below where you can listen and follow along for everything Free Mace. Enjoy!
