Stages of Grief, by any stretch of the imagination, is not your average EP. It hits on so many levels, conscious and unconscious, that it should 100% be receiving more attention for the feats that it has accomplished. According to Orella, this concept album is based on the 5 Stages of Grief, inspired by her own journey of losing her mom. The sound is cinematic indie pop with vivid songwriting meant to give a voice to grief.

Cinematic is the exact descriptor we were thinking of as well, in fact, the entire EP sounds like it could double as a musical score for a dramatic film, it’s truly breathtaking. What I love most about “cinematic” sounding music is that it brings out emotions that you wouldn’t normally feel while listening to music. It entrances you into thinking, actually listening to the heartfelt and heart-wrenching lyrics, and overall you can apply a deep connection to the artist delivering their work to you.

As much as the instrumentation is blowing us away, the lyrics are where it’s really at. It seems as though it would be difficult to express yourself due to such a tragedy, but Orella takes her turn at storytelling and it is without a doubt, a success. We also have to give a massive shoutout to the immense amounts of instruments featured on the EP that really bring it to life. The addition of a strings section is really what gives it the cinematic and dramatic feel. Not to mention that the vocal delivery is spot on and fits in perfectly with the overall context. Basically, can you tell we really like it?
