Everything but the Everything & Adam Brookes collaborate on collection, "A&B Sides, Vol. 1"
Another collaboration from Everything but the Everything means another glimpse of greatness into the Bay Area music scene. This time, he’s back with Adam Brookes and they’ve put together a collection of singles titled “A&B Sides, Vol. 1”. Read on for a closer look at the tracks!
If for some reason you’re out of the loop, Everything but the Everything is the solo project of Israel Chavarin. After a recent exchange with the lead singer Adam Brookes of San Francisco rock band Dangermaker, the two came to the ultimate conclusion that now was the best time to put their heads together for something special. The end product has resulted in two new singles, “We Want More” and “Open Your Mind”. Both are sensational, both are different, but they’re 100% both worth your time and energy to check out.
With the help of Jimmy Chen on the guitar work featured in “We Want More”, they landed on a self-described “Smiths-esque” feel to the track that fully embodies the band’s influence, but absolutely has an original look and feel of its own. While the two tracks do feature some similarities such as soaring synthesizers and a real aura of the 80’s attached, the artist’s have worked towards creating something entirely new and modern. We’re quite up to date with the rest of Everything but the Everything’s music as we’ve reviewed a ton of it, but this particular release feels extra special. Considering this is labeled as Volume 1, we’re already patiently waiting for Volume 2 as soon as possible!
As for these individual tracks, as inventive as they are, they still feel like they’ve got that cohesive feeling. The downtempo feel and almost suspense-like nature are relatable, but the dramatic vocals are where we think they shine the brightest. Through ripping basslines and robotic drumming, they offer an immersive experience for all who listen in. Seriously, not only do they sort of transport you to another decade of sound and style, but they immediately get you rocking out and bobbing your head back and forth. It’s no surprise, but the vision that these collaborators had in the beginning 100% came to fruition towards the end.
