Review by Austin Sher

Kicking off the year in a big way, Eliza Spear is back with yet another stunning single, “I Don’t Want To Be A Hero”...we are loving it! Please read along with us for our thoughts on the track, in addition to a background on the artist.

Fresh off winning the 2020 ASCAP Foundation Jay Gorney Award for her original song, “If I Don’t Try”, we are unbelievably proud and thrilled that Eliza Spear has shared yet another beauty into a world that needs it. Seeing that the artist had a handful of successful single releases in 2020, 2021 is already off to a fantastic start with the release of her new song.

On our first impressions of “I Don’t Want To Be A Hero”, we immediately sensed a massive wave of maturity in Eliza’s sound. While it’s classic Eliza and her impressive vocals, the overall production and mixing of the song were superb. Adding a layer of atmosphere within the background, as well as the layered and dubbed over vocals, it’s an extremely positive evolution in her sound.

Coming in at just a little over three minutes in run time, Eliza also covers a wide array of themes across her signature deep lyricism. As solid as her songs always are, she continues to impress on her lyrics, which for a lot of listeners can be glossed over by everything happening in the song as well. So in that case, we always recommend a few listens through to take the time to listen and connect with what she’s really trying to get across.

If you just so happen to be reading this on New Year’s Day, let it be the first thing you listen to start your year off in the best way possible. While you’re at it, check out the rest of Eliza Spear’s discography as well. If you’re a fan of a lovely hybrid of music featuring glimmers of pop and country, she’s the artist for you!
