Elison strike gold on powerful debut single, "Meet Me Halfway"
It’s honestly hard to believe that this is Elison’s debut single, mainly because the quality was out of this world! Do yourselves a huge favor and read our glowing review of “Meet Me Halfway”, in addition to a much needed background on this new project.
Making up Elison is Marissa Kephart (singer, guitarist) and Scott Yoshimura (multi-instrumentalist, producer) who have surpassed all our wildest expectations on their first official single, “Meet Me Halfway”. Creating a super interesting and innovative take on the indie rock genre, these two truly thought outside the box prior to this release. You’d be doing yourself a disservice if you didn’t immediately click play after reading our thoughts.
Like so many over the past year and a half, these individuals finally took the plunge into making music for themselves. Thankfully they did, because in just four short minutes, they’ve set a base and a level that we hope to see get followed up as soon as possible. While each member certainly brought their own magic to the table, you can feel the synergy happening while listening. Of course Scott’s production skills stand out on this highly polished track, but it’s Marissa’s vocals that won us over almost instantly.
On the background of “Meet Me Halfway”, the duo tells us that it’s about leaving unhealthy relationships behind and moving forward. In typical indie rock fashion, they’ve put a much needed emphasis on the lyricism and their influences of Big Thief, Dinosaur Jr., and Sparklehorse show themselves too. We actually felt that Marissa’s vocal delivery was adjacent to Adrianne Lenker too.
It’s not often that we review songs like this and have nearly zero critiques, however we’ve basically become enamored with this song. It so closely resembles everything we listen to in our off hours that we’re practically begging for more. It’s got that classic indie angst to it without trying too hard, all the while staying true to its roots. You can feel the passion that went into it and that’s probably why it’s struck such a chord.
Once again, we highly recommend you give it a listen, which you can do by checking out the important links below. Don’t forget to follow along too to stay up to date on everything in the works!
