It’s been nearly 9 months since we last reviewed Elijah Mann and his song “Clementine”, so you can imagine our sheer delight to know that he’d shared another one, “Bungalow Song”. For this New York City-based indie folk singer and songwriter, it feels as though it comes easy, the way he carries himself and the lighthearted songs that he delivers. This one is no different in that you feel like you’re floating on a cloud as you strap into the adventure of his newest musical journey. Plain and simple, we can’t wait for everyone out there to give this a proper listen.
Just released on October 14th, 2022, Elijah Mann has sort of stripped this song back in a sense, focusing further on the intimate and raw moments rather than relying on cheap tricks. In some ways, it mirrors the slow burning sensations that “Clementine” held, drawing the listener in to the highs and emotions that “Bungalow Song” has to offer. At just a little under the four minute mark in runtime, you get pulled into the atmosphere of it all, almost as if you’re being immersed into Elijah’s little world. On the background of it all, ultimately the song is about “never being able to afford real estate”, and as a mid to late 20-something writing this, the relatability has truly never been higher.
The way that Elijah has managed to infuse such a seriousness in tone and attitude, all the while writing about something that a whopping majority can relate to, it makes for a well rounded song primed to share with the masses. It’s the sincerity and pure originality in this indie folk bop that makes it the most for us, being backed up by a lovely and lush instrumental to give all the feels and set the vibe. As the cold weather comes our way in our part of the world, it’s soft and serene music like this that will be right at the top of our playlists.
