Eden Havana looks to the future on single, "Afterlife"
With its official release coming today on March 19th, 2021, Eden Havana is back with her fourth single, “Afterlife”. Please read along with us as we share our complete thoughts on the track, as well as a background on this inspiring artist.
Currently based out of Southern California, Eden Havana is a multi-instrumentalist shifting the sounds of indie rock and bedroom pop. What started out as an initial love of songwriting through piano, later expanded into experimenting through singing, guitars, bass, and so much more. Now in her final year of getting her songwriting and production degree at Berklee College of Music, Eden is setting out on a path of her own to pursue music full time.
Inspired by the likes of Joe Cocker, The Beatles, Fleetwood Mac, and more, it’s not overly difficult to hear those influences come to play on this single. However in a more modern take, our initial realizations were just how similar of a sound she had to Japanese Breakfast and Phoebe Bridgers. Both fantastic in their own right, Eden is still on the right path of carving out something unique for herself, and we confidently think that’s shown through on “Afterlife”.
What can certainly be considered a vocal forward track is also doubling as something truly beautiful within its instrumentation and background noise. Atmospheric is what we’d consider it, but really the swirling backgrounds that compliment Eden’s voice are what completes the song as a whole. Seeing as though she’s steadily putting out singles, the growth within her sound can audibly be heard and differentiated from release to release.
While we know the trend nowadays is to release individual singles, we’d love to hear a complete EP of ideas that stem right off this single. From our interpretation, the song feels like it’s about moving back to a more normal world, in which the artist wants to move on from the life she’s living now. A complete record of ideas about a post-COVID world would be quite the take. Branching off the mood she’s created here would be a plus, but at this point, we’ll happily take any more Eden we can get.
Wrapping it up though, it should come as no surprise that this is without a doubt a song that we’d like you all to listen to. It’s got originality, a grand sound, and intriguing vocals that keep you hooked from the start. To us, it’s a winner, and we’re incredibly excited to see and hear how the artist grows in the coming months and years.
