Detroit L-O impresses on his lyrically dense 13th LP, "Solitaire Summer"
Serving up his 13th album in 7 years time, Detroit L-O has delivered big on his massive new record, Solitaire Summer. Please read on for a closer look into his newest music, in addition to a much needed background on this talented artist.
For those out of the loop or unfamiliar, Detroit L-O is a multi-talented artist currently based out of Detroit, Michigan. As a member and active founder of LiveRAW Gold Bottle Team and The Raw Life Records, it’s safe to say that this artist is passionate about his local scene. Newest on the horizon though is his whopping 13th album titled Solitaire Summer that is jam packed with hot weather hits, lyrical masterpieces, and beyond. Needless to say, we’re highly recommending everyone out there give this a spin as soon as possible.
Coming in at 26 tracks long, spanning right under an hour and a half, Solitaire Summer is an absolute beast of an album to say the least. It’s Detroit L-O’s second largest project to date, but given everything he’s put out up to date, the quality and craftsmanship is still as high as ever. Like a majority of the rest of his records, he’s continuing to be an extremely well rounded musician in that the focus is not specifically on just lyrics, production, or beats, rather a solid mix of everything. We’ll be honest though, our first impression before listening was that typically albums of this length can be intimidating due to their length, however he somehow manages to pique the listener’s interest through these intricate stories from start to finish.
There are seemingly infinite lyrical themes and complex topics that are covered, so we’ll leave that to the listener to break down, but Detroit L-O really does a wonderful job of painting pictures and stories with his words. For example, some of our standout tracks on the album were “Velour Vocals”, “Cigar Bar & Lounge”, and “On A Roll” featuring Strat. A word to the wise before listening is to click the play button on the opener and let this run untouched, it’s an immersive experience that’s truly worth your time and energy. Additionally, this musician has a deep catalog, so please do some exploration on that as well.
