Desi G showcases her musical depth on newest LP, "Lucid Thoughts"
On her second full length album of the year titled Lucid Thoughts, Desi G has managed to create absolute super fans out of us. We’re loving this record! Read on for our full thoughts, in addition to a background on this talented emerging artist.
Representing the Vancouver music scene, Desi G is a multi-talented musician who’s gained quite the following over the past year. Showcasing her best abilities on Lucid Thoughts, but ultimately centering this record around her enticing vocal delivery, you can fully expect to be quickly enthralled into the world of music and sound she’s created. Without a doubt, we are overwhelmingly recommending you give this album a listen as soon as you can.
In our eyes though, Desi G is so much more than just a “musician”. If you happen to be out of the loop, she’s also a mental health advocate who’s using her large following to project the bigger message. Of course Lucid Thoughts was chalk full of deep lyricism that reflects these positive motives, but so much of what we’ve loved about this album rollout and her as a person is that it's become her persona.
As you’ll definitely be able to tell from listening to the album, Desi G is incredibly talented in more ways than just her vocals. She also plays the violin, piano, and clarinet, to which we can only assume has broadened her musical horizons and directly affected the unique song structures she’s composed on Lucid Thoughts. While of course it’s a Pop-based record, tracks like “Check Mate”, “Shards of Glass”, “Limitless”, and so many more break the mold of the norm. There’s something so special about the way these songs are crafted, and the more you listen, the more the subtleties unfold.
Comparing her debut record On My Own to this latest effort Lucid Thoughts, you can audibly tell and disseminate the growth she’s had in less than a year. It’s beyond impressive that any artist can get two albums out within a year of course, but the fact that they’re distinguishably different and unique is the true mark of an artist. While of course we’re not sure what else is cooking up in her musical mind, we know for sure we’ll be listening to it whenever the next project drops.
