With so much more music headed our way, we got the special opportunity to sit and speak with Andrew Gharib of Desert Stranger and hear his compelling story. Please check out our full interview below.

For those out of the loop on Andrew Gharib, he’s no stranger to music in the slightest, but has ultimately shifted away from the band life in order to start his new solo project, Desert Stranger. While we did speak extensively on his single “Maybe I’m Blind”, thankfully he gave us all the information we needed to know surrounding his upcoming release (out Friday), the shapeshifting of his musical styles, and a glimpse into the future of where he might be headed. Without a doubt, it’s a conversation with an artist that we recommend you not miss out on.

Having spent a ton of time with his last band Animal Confession, in which they created a ton of buzz for themselves, and released two albums in the process, Andrew has sort of broke free into something new. He’s in the midst of steering his own ship and honing creative control for the future of Desert Stranger. One thing we focused on intently was the genre-bending of his music and how listeners can pretty much expect to hear something different or at least a variation from single to single. “Maybe I’m Blind” took on more of a slightly softer alternative rock approach, but from the sound of it, things will be shaken up on this next track.

Inspired by some of the greats like The Cure, U2, Joy Division, and plenty more, a quote from Andrew that stuck with us is when he said, “I’m excited to play with different ideas and see where they go. Whatever comes out…comes out”. In our opinion, we love that there’s no construct here and rather whatever you hear is what was influenced in the moment. He gets to be creative when he wants, keep things fast and loose, and not confine himself to a singular sound. We 100% respect it and can’t wait to hear where this project goes in the very near future!
