Derek Lee Goodreid shines on lyrically powerful song, "Breakthru Hardtimes"

Embodying the genres of Blues, Soul, and beyond, Derek Lee Goodreid has sincerely sent shivers down our collective spines with the fresh release of his latest song, “Breakthru Hardtimes”. Inspired by personal experiences that include “relationship failures, unemployment and health problems”, the track gives the listener an open look at the artist’s life and how he plans to overcome and keep himself on the right track to success. Without a doubt, we are urging everyone out there to not only check this song out, but the rest of Derek’s discography too.
Slightly inspired by the musical works of artists like John Mayer or Ben Harper, Derek Lee Goodreid has still managed to infuse a staggering amount of originality and uniquity into “Breakthru Hardtimes”. His immaculate and downright emotional vocals are the obvious focal point and attention grabber of the song, but we’d be lying if we said that his guitar playing wasn’t another major factor. There’s a certain grittiness and stripped back raw feeling that the song holds, and for us, that directly added to the entirety of the allure. Little production effects or flourishments would’ve otherwise taken away from the realness that it all holds, especially considering that this feels like a no frills artistic achievement.
Says Derek on the song’s background, “From failure we can learn and grow, so don’t be afraid of it. There is no room for ruminating on the past and the negative thoughts that come from it when you have a clear mind focused on success. It took some time and it was difficult to see the light but with some professional support and good people in my life I managed to crawl my way up from the hole I was in. This song was my anthem through those times.”
We’ll be honest though, this was actually our introduction to Derek’s music as a whole. Since listening to this though, we’ve gone down the rabbit hole of the rest of his songs and there’s plenty of gems to uncover.
