Previewing the second single titled “Bruises” off of their newest album Afterglow, the project of De Antiquis Et Novis is one to keep an eye out for. Please read on for our full review of the track.

Heavily influenced by some of the greats in the genre like Jean Michel Jarre, Tangerine Dream, and Kraftwerk, De Antiquis Et Novis is adding in a whole bunch of originality and adding to those iconic sounds. With an all new single out titled “Bruises”, it's reinventing electronic music in a way that for us, felt like it focused a whole lot more on the production side of things to really amplify the skill set. However you’d like to label it, just know that we’re highly recommending you give it a listen.

Starting back up during the Covid lockdowns and picking up writing and recording again, Matthias began the path of creating this all new record, Afterglow. Filled with mostly vintage analog and digital synthesizers, the instrumentation by far is what impressed us the most. As there is a reverberating and mostly lowkey vocal included, we felt that added more of an atmospheric element than anything story based. For us, it definitely added to the allure of the song, however our focus was on the soundscapes created.

As for what’s to come in full on the new record, we confidently feel that it’s going to be a surprise of sorts. Listening to the first released song of this cycle and comparing it to this, the rest of the songs to follow should surely be of quality, but it’s going to keep us on our toes for its inevitable release. We’re not 100% certain as to when it’s coming, but we’ll make sure to keep everyone updated.

Wrapping it all up though, “Bruises” was an exceptionally enjoyable song for us that we’ll definitely have on repeat until the album comes. Of course we recommend you check it out, but also to follow along with the artist to stay updated on what else is to come. You can do so by clicking all the important links below.
