Darcy Kate crafts a feel good & imagery-filled single, "Dorothy"

On her first single release of 2022, Australia-based singer and songwriter Darcy Kate has put something together that’s evoked all of the joy in the world out of us. Guaranteed to put a smile on your face and put you in a good mood, her newest song “Dorothy” is an upbeat and acoustic track that is confidently led by Darcy’s vocals that are silky smooth. Combining elements of folk, rock, and pop, she’s still found her niche within these crowded genres. If for some reason this is your intro the artist, you’ve discovered her at the absolute best time.
With a debut album that’s somewhere on the horizon, hopefully by the end of this year, she’s been on the path of teasing out singles over the past year or so. While the previously released singles were great in their own right, we’ve grown fond of “Dorothy” and it’s essence the more we’ve listened. What Darcy is doing correctly among many things is being strategic in her lyricism to effortlessly paint a picture in the song from start to finish. It immerses the listener into a world that she’s ultimately created and gives you the opportunity to learn a little bit about an artist who you may have been unfamiliar with.
While the songwriting is a clear 10/10, the song structure and glimmers of pop immediately had us bopping along from the opening notes. The song certainly doesn’t go crazy with an over production, but stylistically that was the correct choice given the feel and the atmosphere of the song. If there were too many detractors, it would definitely take away from the warm and fuzzy feeling that it all holds, and shift focus from the story at hand. As mentioned, the more we’ve listened and attempted to make the connections within the song, the more we’ve grown to enjoy this artist as a whole.
