Cristy & Her Lovers release funk-filled EP, "Cool. Whatever."
Officially released on February 13th, 2021, Cristy & Her Lovers have finally shared their long awaited debut EP, Cool. Whatever. Do yourselves a favor and read on for our detailed review of the record, as well as a refresher on this blossoming band.
Having just covered their debut single, “Contact High” not too long ago, we are absolutely thrilled that Cristy & Her Lovers have followed up with a piece of true art on Cool. Whatever. Filled with a stunning horns section, a productionally rich sound, and an overall fresh feel, this EP is an absolute winner overall.
Coming in at 4 total tracks, we cannot overstate how wonderfully original sounding this record is. While it just came out, we’re already waiting for its follow up, that’s just how good it is. Regardless, the story goes that Cristy recruited 8 talented musicians to become a part of her new project. Luckily, they all agreed and have come together to create a collection of “groovy-ass music”.
That’s exactly what this record is, groovy and real. Kicking things off on the EP with the opener “Oh Fuck” is truly the best way to throw yourself into world that Cristy & Her Lovers have built. Considering there’s so many equally talented members spread across the band, we found it quite impressive that each member gets a moment to themselves to really show off what they’re made of. The star of the show, at least in the forefront, is Cristy herself who gets the continuous opportunity to show off her smooth vocals that add such a significant layer to the overall sound.
We couldn’t get through this review though without giving mention to the horns section, who absolutely took the record to another level of amazing. Maybe we’re just easily impressed by horns, but at the least, they still need to complement the vibe which they have done. The funky bass features, the rhythm guitar sections, and even the drumming need a mention as well, as they all really came together to create something significant.
I don’t think it can be overstated really how much we’ve enjoyed Cool. Whatever. As mentioned, we’re already patiently waiting for whatever is on its way next. We’re fans for life at this point and think you will be too. Give it a listen and turn it up loud. Enjoy!
