Crash World share their sensational debut album, "So the Story Goes"
The day has come and the wait was 100% worth it! Crash World has just delivered their debut album So the Story Goes and it’s a beauty from start to finish. Read on for our full review of the record, in addition to an update on the band.
You might remember our coverage from not too long ago highlighting Crash World’s lead single “Lucky One” and loving it. Thankfully the turnaround time wasn’t too long, because this Vancouver-based dynamic duo of Glen MacLeod and Graham MacDonald have given the world something seriously special with So the Story Goes. It covers so many different aspects of life and personal experience all the while experimenting with multiple genres and an artistic flair. Truly, we can’t recommend it enough.
Coming in at a whopping 15 total songs, spanning right around an hour and 10 minutes, Crash World have quite literally put it all out on the line and held nothing back. The aforementioned “Lucky One” is a well deserved album opener, however it’s just the tip of the iceberg to how deep So the Story Goes really experiments with sound, style, and deep lyricism. As described by the band, they’re blending the “poetic whimsy of the 60's and the alluring boldness of the 70’s with a refreshing contemporary flare”. While that is certainly true in a ton of aspects, there’s also a really nice modern and futuristic touch that they’ve added. The fresh feeling comes from the updated production, but there’s still tons of nostalgic elements that show themselves as well.
Breaking down each and every song would be an impossible task, but what we will say is that each isolated song brings its own atmosphere into the mix. While Glen and Graham have clearly been playing for a while despite this being their “debut”, they’ve completed their vision of creating something both cohesive and meaningful from beginning to end. Some individual songs that stood out for us and really made our ears perk up were “Before & After”, “Black Swan”, and “Ritual”. Our sincere urge still stands to let this run through untouched as it really is an album experience that’s not to be missed.
