Confidential drops in for a background on "The Search For" - Interview
Hot off the release of one of our favorite records of the year, The Search For, we got the opportunity to speak with Confidential all about the background of it. Please check out our full interview below.
Currently based out Brighton, Confidential wasn’t always the solo artist you’re about to hear today. In fact, he was a paramount part of many other bands, however he’s gone solo and is confidently making some of the best Hip Hop Lo-Fi music we’ve ever heard, seriously. From the mind of George Wakerley comes The Search For, a hefty record that showcases an extreme of talent from start to finish in nearly every facet of the word.
Says Confidential on the background of the record, “I’m not really looking to impress anybody other than myself. I make the music that I want to listen to and I think being authentic is the greatest thing you can do as an artist and as a human being”. Although we think he’s being modest, he’s sincerely impressed us. Coming in at a whopping 35 tracks long (wow), and only due to distribution restraints, he honestly hits the spectrum of lo-fi music in just one record. You’ll see what we’re talking about as soon as you hit that play button, but this is really one of the more impressive pieces of music we’ve ever encountered.
Staying incredibly ambitious for the rest of 2022 and beyond, getting to speak with him about the intricacies of The Search For was the cherry on top of our overwhelming enjoyment for listening. Picking out a favorite song would almost be a waste of time due to the density of the record, so our suggestions here would be to start at the beginning and let it flow through seamlessly for the full album experience. Of course you’ll find your favorites, but it’s the journey of exploring that means the most.
