Absolutely prolific within his releases, Cody Steinmann has just shared a compelling single of his own titled “Not Sappy At All”. Keep reading for a closer look into the track, as well as a much needed update on this artist.

It’s been nearly three months since we last had the opportunity to interview Cody Steinmann surrounding one of his other musical projects, C0DE 7. Imparting himself deeply in the Twin Cities music scene, one thing we learned about him is that he certainly stretches himself thin in the best way possible, providing his many talents to other projects consistently. In this case though, he’s adding to his own personal discography with a completely instrumental song called “Not Sappy At All” that is gripping and intense from the opening notes. Of course, we’re highly recommending all give it a listen.

As a performer and teacher of music for the last 10 years, Cody Steinmann’s concentrated musicianship truly knows no bounds. His latest effort is a single called “Not Sappy At All” which you’ll quickly realize is 6+ minutes of shredding guitars, inspired drum patterns, and legitimately one of the most fun instrumentals we’ve experienced in quite some time. It’s not often we find ourselves air-playing the instruments, but due to sheer vibrance and vibrato this one holds, it’s actually difficult to hold yourself back. Comparing it directly to our last experience with his music on C0DE 7’s 7, this is a fully different look and soundscape than what we were imagining. We put so much focus in the past on his lyricism painting a picture, but seeing as this one is lyricless, your 100% attention gets thrusted into the twists and turns provided instrumentally.

Cody, for the most part, specializes in Jazz improvisation, and while this is certainly Jazz-adjacent, it so perfectly borders that line of pure Rock and Roll too. Overpowering in the mix is an electric guitar that is simply beauty to our ears, achieving a tone that is about as close to euphoria as you can achieve. For us, instrumental music is typically difficult to hold our attention due to a lack of melody or other outside forces, but what “Not Sappy At All” does correctly is infuse that emotion, suspense, and drama through other factors. Happily, we would enjoy a full record of songs just like this, going full on into the experimental realm.

If this happens to be your introduction to Cody Steinmann, it’s a great place to start, but don’t forget he’s got a ton more projects under his belt. Please go ahead and click the links below to listen, explore, follow along, and to keep up with much more on the way.
