Hypnotizing with his vocals from beginning to end, Cathal Murphy has gone above and beyond on his second EP, Montreal Sessions. We are loving this! Please read on for a closer look into the record, as well as a background on this artist.

Currently representing the music scene in Edinburgh, Cathal Murphy is an immensely talented musician specializing in R&B and Soul with an emphasis on crisp production and diverse instrumentation. Just released on October 21st, Cathal has finally shared his newest EP titled Montreal Sessions, a four track record bursting with laid back grooves and rhythmic passages scattered throughout. It immediately took us by hold and we sincerely cannot wait for everyone out there to click the play button.

Slightly reminiscent of heavy hitters like Tom Misch or John Mayer, it’s still an overwhelmingly original and fresh sounding style from the emerging artist. Through our initial listen, it was hard not to intently focus on the sheer beauty that is Cathal’s vocals, but now on repeated listens, you sort of sink into the relaxation and endless chill that Montreal Sessions has to offer, and there’s certainly a lot of that going on. Through three lyric-filled songs and one jammy interlude, this record runs right around 11 minutes, but we wish it were triple the length. For us, it had so many things going right for it, but the main driver is how it effortlessly captured the mood of cold weather and taking it easy. We suppose that might come through because of where it was record (Montreal), but we never expected the music to have that positive effect.

As this was our introduction to Cathal’s music, it’s not a surprise to say that we’re quite blown away with the final result. On specific tracks like “Means the World” and “Forgive You”, the sonic blend between Funk, Soul, and easy acoustic listening is a sound we’ve been trying to discover for such a long time. Sure, there are plenty of artists delivering their version of that, but something about Montreal Sessions has a real genuine feeling through the vocal delivery and cadence. It comes together to create this well rounded package of upper echelon artistry, something that once again we’re recommending everyone take the time to enjoy!

While we patiently wait for more music, please go ahead and check out the links below to listen, follow along, and of course to keep up with all future releases.
