Led by an unbelievably groovy bass line, Carousel Club have just over delivered on their fantastic new single titled “Old Boy”. Please read on for our glowing review of the track, as well as a much needed background on the band.

For this five piece indie pop band out of Melbourne, it appears they’ll always aim to reinvent themselves and push the limits of sound. On their latest, “Old Boy”, they’ve perfectly implemented a string of catchy melodies, inventive instrumentation, and a set of heavenly vocals that ideally set the tone for a chill sounding single. Plain and simple, we’re loving it, and we confidently think you’ll all feel the same.

Jam-packed with rippling synthesizers and spacey moments galore, they’ve delicately created this hybrid sound that features glimmers of psychedelia and the summer. On the background of it all though, they’ve said that “‘Old Boy’ is about time and space circulating around us, it is about standing together as one with the people you love and supporting one another through the rollercoaster that is our day to day lives all leading to the inevitability that time will set you free”.

It’s certainly reminiscent of some of the bigger names of today like alt-J for example, however there’s so much originality and freshness oozing out of this, it’s almost in a league of its own. Considering our personal tastes heavily lean towards an indie pop sound similar to this, we tend to “judge” a bit harder due to our familiarity. With that being said though, this is 100% going on our playlists for personal consumption. It’s just the type of sound we like, but with a flair that doesn’t feel like it’s being overdone or reinventing the wheel.

With a string of singles coming consistently since 2019, here’s to hoping that this isn’t the last we see of Carousel Club in 2022. This was our introduction to the band, but it’s now given us the urge to follow along for life, we truly loved it that much. Please do yourselves a huge favor and check out the links below in order to listen, follow along, and of course to stay tuned for everything else on the way.
