CALICO preview 2nd LP with outstanding single, "Take Me with You"
Making a swift return after the release of 2021’s Under a Sudden Sun, CALICO have further evolved their sound on a new single titled “Take Me with You”. Please read on for an in-depth look on the track, in addition to an update on the band.
Crafting this song about a story that tells the tale of “a deep bond between a man and his guitar”, CALICO’s “Take Me with You” is as much an impressive lyrical tale as it is a laidback folk jam. Expounding on wonderful instrumentals presented on Under a Sudden Sun, they’ve continued on the same path but with an extra special focus on the drumming. Taking cues from some of the greats like The War on Drugs and Bob Dylan, there’s still such an originality about their sound that’s setting them apart from the pack of similar artists.
While this particular single is serving as a precursor to two more, ultimately it’s an incredible preview to their sophomore record A Midnight Moon that’s slated for a summer release. We typically equate a sound of the summer with something a tad more high energy, or even electronic, but “Take Me with You” has this calming nature about it but that’s idyllic for hanging on the beach, going for a long drive, or just generally reflecting. Whether it’s the relaxing aura of the lead singer’s vocals or not, the entirety of the song is built to put you at ease and make you focus intently on the beauty being presented.
You can’t help but compare it to past works, but there’s still a futuristic sound and change to what they’ve put out in the past. Every band should always be working towards the next thing and “Take Me with You” marks the next chapter of a truly exhilarating discography that CALICO are masterfully putting together. At just a tad over five minutes in length, the song is long enough to present all the ideas and let things breathe, but doesn’t feel overdrawn either. From a compositional perspective, there’s nothing in the slightest that we’d change about this, it’s just lovely.
