Shared officially on December 4th, 2020, we got the incredibly unique opportunity to sit down and have an in-depth chat with Bry444n all about his debut record, The Slumflower Series. Do yourselves a favor and watch our full interview below.

For those unaware, Bry444n is the work of Seattle-based spoken word poet and vocalist, Bryan Barnett. Having been involved in music for quite a while now, he’s also the CEO and Founder of Emotion Entertainment; an independently ran production company. Our full interview with Bryan resulted in our eyes opening wide hearing all of the complexities and love that went into his debut record, The Slumflower Series.

While we’d obviously love for you to watch the interview in full, we’ll spoil it right now and let you know that we’ve quickly fallen in love with the record. Blurring genres of Hip Hop, Jazz, Spoken Word, and so much more, Bry444n has crafted up a record here that is not only stunning in sound, but in realness and spirituality. We truly loved our talk with the artist as he spoke to us all about the record’s origins, how he came about creating it, the help he had, and so many more important topics.

One thing we harped upon in our talk was how under represented the genre of Spoken Word really is. We thanked the artist for including it thoroughly in his record and made sure to point out how direct and hard hitting it can really play when the lyricism and context is as bold as it was. While some may approach this record as a standard Hip Hop record, you’ll quickly make the realization that it’s everything but that. Listen closely and let the themes and context flow through your brain. Make connections with not only the impressive instrumentation, but the messages and stories the artist is trying to get across as well.

Speaking with Bryan was a true pleasure and opened our minds up to ideals and processes we didn’t know possible. He’s clearly proven thus far that though he is young, his experience runs deep. Without a doubt, this is not only an artist we’ll be following, but a career we expect to shine as bright as possible. Seeing as though he runs his own company, every project he’s involved in is sure to be a complex project.

With all that being said, we obviously recommend watching our full talk, but if you want to hop straight to the music, we’ve provided all the necessary links below to listen and enjoy.
