Fresh off an eclectic new record titled BROKELAND Vol. 1, we got the special opportunity to sit and speak with some of the members of music collective, BROKELAND! Check out our full interview below.

Currently based in Brooklyn, NY, BROKELAND aren’t your typical alternative rap group, in fact, they’re creating an extremely exotic sound that features some incredible samples. Infusing bits of the 60’s in terms of Frank Zappa, The Beatles, and the overall essence, we instantly fell in love with their record. Getting to speak with them was a blast as well, mainly because they kept it loose and had a great time expressing the background and processes of the album.

So much of what we’re enjoying about this group so far is their non-reliance on something or someone bigger steering them in a direction of what to do or not do. They’re grabbing their successes by the reigns and making decisions for a brighter future. Led by musician and talented entertainer Blkchrist, among other members Tre The Artist, Meliki Hurd, and KELLIE, our chat with five of them was a serious blast. As great as the album is from start to finish, you’re guaranteed a laugh or two if you give it a listen or watch.

The pros of being a collective as opposed to just a set band is they’ve got a rotating cast of 10 members that come in and out to create their music. It feels like there’s a core at the middle, however everyone gets input and their moment to shine within the madness. At 11 total tracks, spanning right around 26 minutes in length, everything continues to feel super fresh and original. We’ve listened multiple times up to this point with plans to go back and check out what we most likely missed due to its density.

With all that being said though, plain and simple this group of musicians are as legit as they come. We can’t overstate how much we’ve enjoyed this record, so don’t miss out for another second and check out those links below where you can listen, follow along, and stay tuned for what’s undoubtedly going to be a massive year for the collective.
