In the kaleidoscopic universe of Bones in Butter's first full-length album, "Songs For A Sane Society," the Serbian outfit crafts a pop soundscape that defies conventions and embraces a realm of musical exploration like never before. With influences ranging from the iconic sounds of the 80s and 70s, including Lou Reed, Electric Light Orchestra, and plenty others, Bones in Butter delivers an album that is a testament to the enduring power of pop, infused with an experimental spirit.

Led by the multifaceted Milutin Krasevic on vocals, synths, samples, and the creative force behind the music and lyrics, "Songs For A Sane Society" boasts a comprehensive lineup that includes Luna Skopelja on vocals and synths, Todor Zivkovic on guitars and synths, Dejan Skopelja on bass, and the rhythmic foundation provided initially by Marcelo Effori and later replaced by Tom Fedja Franklin on drums. The extensive credits speak to the collaborative nature of the album, recorded over three years, resulting in a journey that is both intricate and cohesive.

The album's title alludes to a thematic exploration of serious matters such as alienation, virtual realities, institutional oppression, survival, and the rise and fall of tyrants. Yet, Bones in Butter skillfully balances the weight of these topics by interweaving themes of love and hope, maintaining an ironic undertone throughout. It's this duality that lends a dynamic and nuanced quality to the album, creating a sonic landscape that is both thought-provoking and sonically delightful.

"Songs For A Sane Society" is a revelation of fun pop-rock music with an intricacy that belies its seemingly simple genre classification. The album's tight production is immediately apparent, with each track meticulously crafted to offer an expansive use of instrumentation. The palette is otherworldly, immersing the listener in a universe of sound that is both familiar and refreshingly novel.

From the pulsating rhythms of the opening track to the dreamlike melodies that unfold as the album progresses, Bones in Butter showcases an innate ability to blend genres seamlessly. The cohesiveness throughout the album is a testament to their artistic vision, creating a listening experience that feels like a sonic journey with surprises at every turn. For us, our favorites had to be “So Alone”, “A Dystopian Love Song”, and “Stop Dancing Now!”, but obviously we recommend the whole record for a front to back listen.

The infectious energy and good vibes permeating the album make it plain fun and a joy to listen to. The band achieves a rare balance between musical complexity and accessibility, inviting the audience to delve into the intricacies of their sound while providing a sonic playground for those who simply want to enjoy a good tune.

In "Songs For A Sane Society," Bones in Butter achieves a remarkable feat—a pop odyssey that transcends the ordinary and ventures into the extraordinary. With this debut full-length album, the Serbian ensemble invites listeners to rethink their perception of pop music, proving that within its familiar boundaries, there exists endless potential for innovation, introspection, and sonic bliss.

We’ve got nothing but good things to say, truly, so please give it a spin and follow along for hopefully much more in the near future!
